SPARTANBURG S.C. Denny's used its first-ever Super Bowl ad to offer a free Grand Slam breakfast this Tuesday.
The 30-second spot, which aired during the third quarter of the game, featured three mafia types trying to talk business in a restaurant, only their discussion is interrupted by a waitress noisily squirting whipped cream on one of the men's pancakes. The ad ends with an offer to try a free Grand Slam between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday at participating locations within Denny's system of more than 1,500 units.
The ad, developed by Denny's new agency of record Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, is part of the chain's "Real Breakfast" campaign.
Denny's has faced pressure in the morning daypart from family-dining rivals like IHOP and quick-service competitors like McDonald's, which last week pointed to breakfast as a key sales driver.
