SHARON Pa. Quaker Steak & Lube, the 30-unit automotive-theme chain known for its 21 chicken wing sauce varieties, recently debuted its hottest sauce, the Triple Atomic, and will be promoting it with a YouTube video contest.
The user-generated Triple Atomic Tough Video Challenge, set to begin Dec. 12, will ask consumers to demonstrate their firepower with a 30-second video uploaded to TripleAtomicTough.com. Ten finalists will be chosen by a panel of judges and posted on Quaker Steak’s Facebook page, where customers can vote on their favorite. The winner will receive three years of free wings. Two runners-up will win a $250 and $100 gift card.
The Triple Atomic sauce measures 500,000 on the Scoville scale, which measures the hotness of a chili pepper. A jalapeno, for example, measures between 2,500 and 8,000 on the Scoville scale.
“We want to know if you’re tough enough to handle the heat of our latest sauce,” said Bob Mentrek, senior vice president of promotions and marketing at Quaker Steak & Lube. “This isn’t an eating contest; it’s a state of mind. We’re asking The Lube fan nation to prove to us why they are tougher, and hotter, than the hottest wings around.”
