Beyond pumpkin spice: The year in coffee

Chains brought new creativity to the cup o’ Joe in 2018

Ever since Starbucks introduced the Pumpkin Spice Latte in 2003 to wild acclaim, that beverage of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and other spices has been a sign of fall. But although that particular variety of caffeinated drink has been imitated by countless operators, they’ve shown creativity in developing new flavors, too.

In the past year, both Starbucks and Dunkin’ have introduced entire new espresso lines, and other chains have spiked their drinks with flavors ranging from cardamom and vanilla to turmeric and ginger, as well as different varieties of cookie flavoring.

Here’s a look at some of the coffees that were introduced in 2018.
