California Pizza Kitchen announced Wednesday the launch of its first domestic franchising program, following a successful expansion strategy through franchising partnerships.
The Beverly Hills, Calif. brand recently announced new franchise stores in Hong Kong and Alberta, Canada, making it the company’s first foray into the North American country. Now, CPK will be bringing its franchising program to the U.S. for the first time.
“For the first time in our 35-year history, we’re eager to engage new domestic franchisee partners that share a passion for creating memorable dining experiences and expand our reach to bring CPK to even more diners nationwide,” CPK Executive Vice President of Global Development & Franchise Operations Giorgio Minardi said in a statement. “In addition to our aggressive franchise growth overseas, we look forward to bringing on new partners here in the states who believe in our imaginative, California-forward menu and unmatched hospitality.”
In July 2020, CPK filed for Ch. 11 reorganization and then emerged from bankruptcy in Oct. 2020. Most recently, the company has completed its debt refinancing in Oct. 2021, with plans to move forward with a new plan and expanded growth plans.
With plans to aggressively expand its global and domestic footprint in 2022 and beyond, California Pizza Kitchen currently has 200 locations in eight countries and U.S. territories, including 40 international franchise locations and 16 domestic franchise locations in transportation hubs and entertainment venues.
“California Pizza Kitchen is a known leader in the global restaurant industry when it comes to innovative cuisine and friendly hospitality,” Jim Hyatt, president and CEO with California Pizza Kitchen said in a statement. “With Giorgio at the helm of our extensive franchise expansion, we look forward to expanding our national and global footprint in 2022 and beyond.”
