WASHINGTON On-site caterer Compass Group USA has won the bidding to manage the foodservice operations for the U.S. House of Representatives, according to a British news report.
Compass is expected to formally announce the deal on Wednesday when it releases its full-year earnings report, The Times reported on its website.
Ironically, the House of Representatives investigated Compass’ London-based parent, Compass Group PLC, as part of a probe of alleged bid rigging at the United Nations. In 2005, Compass Group and its Eurest Support Services division were accused of using insider information to rig bids and win U.N. contracts to feed peacekeeping forces in Liberia, East Timor, Burundi and Ethiopia. The company subsequently was sued by competitors ES-KO International and Supreme Foodservice for its role in the scandal and settled the suits for less than $75 million.
Compass Group USA is based in Charlotte, N.C.
