Del Taco, Arizona Cardinals team up again

LAKE FOREST Calif. Del Taco, the 500-unit quick-service Mexican chain based here, announced it is teaming up with the Arizona Cardinals once again for promotions during the 2009 National Football League season. The chain, a division of Sagittarius Brands, first partnered with the Cardinals last season, when the team went all the way to Super Bowl XLIII.

Del Taco said its sponsorship of the Cardinals would allow it to reach the team’s fans through its presence at University of Phoenix Stadium and with in-store branded promotions. Among its contest offerings will be the “Raving Cardinals Fan of the Week,” in which participants could win two field passes and tickets to each home game.

“Our first year of the partnership with the Cardinals was a tremendous success, and what a season for the Cardinals!” said Stephanie Sproull, senior field marketing manager for Del Taco. “The Arizona Cardinals have very passionate and loyal fans, just like Del Taco, and we are excited to work with the team to create new and fun opportunities for them.”

Del Taco also will advertise in the team’s Cardinal Kickoff magazine and run spots on the Cardinals’ radio network.

“We’re very excited to continue this partnership with Del Taco,” said Cardinals executive vice president Ron Minegar. “It is certainly an established brand that enjoys a reputation for both quality and customer loyalty, and this will be a very positive relationship for the Cardinals and our fans.”

Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will actively participate in another restaurant industry sponsorship of the NFL, starring in commercials with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donavan McNabb for a new menu at family-dining chain IHOP.

The brand’s “IHOP’s Gone Totally NFL” promotion will feature a lineup of NFL-branded menu items, including AFC & NFC Stuffed French Toast, NFC Blueberry Banana Blitz, AFC Strawberry Banana Blitz, and four varieties of the Quarterback Scramble breakfast entrée. The menu will be offered through Oct. 25.
