Achiote is a bright red spice that is native to South America and adds flavor and color to Latin American, Spanish and Southeast Asian dishes. It tastes slightly earthy and has a peppery aroma. It’s often ground into a paste with garlic and spices like cumin, coriander seeds, peppercorns and allspice.
Achiote is in the Inception stage. It’s considered a premium ingredient that can be found mostly on fine-dining menus and at independent restaurants.
