Smoothie King becomes the first quick-service chain to offer a GLP-1 menu for customers on drugs like Ozempic

The GLP-1 Support Menu was developed in partnership with a registered dietician and offers five smoothies with weight loss patients in mind

Smoothie King this week became the first quick-service chain to offer a GLP-1 support menu specifically designed for customers on weight loss drugs like Ozempic. The menu of high-protein, fiber-rich, and zero-added sugar smoothies was developed in partnership with registered dietician, Molly Kimball.

“Designed for individuals who are incorporating GLP-1 medications into their routines, Smoothie King’s new GLP-1 Support Menu is intended to empower guests with great tasting, nutritional choices that complement their unique needs,” Lori Primavera, Smoothie King’s vice president of research and development and product marketing, told Nation’s Restaurant News. “The menu offers meal-replacement smoothies that are high in protein, rich in fiber, and hydrating—key elements that can help aid the nutritional needs of customers taking GLP-1 medications.”

According to a recent study from Impact Analytics, American calorie consumption is expected to decline by 10 trillion calories by 2030, with the growth of GLP-1 weight loss drug usage a contributing factor. While most of the restaurant industry has not seen much of an impact on sales yet, consumers taking drugs like Ozempic will want to limit foods high in saturated fat, processed foods, added sweeteners, and high sodium items, as well as alcohol consumption. Primavera said that though she could not speculate what percentage of Smoothie King’s customers take GLP-1 drugs, she called it a “sizable audience.”

“We know that every individual’s path is different, and with the rising use of GLP-1 medications across our customer base, our commitment continues, and we want to ensure that Smoothie King provides the nutritional resources to match,” she said.

All five new smoothies on the Smoothie King GLP-1 menu are designed to help with hydration and side effects of taking the weight loss drugs, which include digestive issues, bloating, fatigue, and loss of appetite. The variations include:

  • Gladiator GLP-1 (made with a flavored protein supplement, and choice of two ingredients from almonds, almond butter, wild blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, organic ginger, kale, carrots, or spinach)
  • Slim n Trim GLP-1 Mango Greens (made with mangoes, Greek yogurt, almond milk, Smoothie King’s Slim n Trim protein blend, kale, ginger, and spinach)
  • Keto Champ GLP-1 (The berry version is made with almond milk, almond butter, blueberries, raspberries, keto protein blend, and cocoa powder; the chocolate version is made with almond milk, almond butter, cocoa, keto protein blend, and Stevia)
  • The Activator Recovery GLP-1 Almond Berry (strawberries, blueberries, almond milk, coconut water, Smoothie King Gladiator protein blend in strawberry)
  • Power Meal Slim GLP-1 (Chocolate version is made with bananas, almond milk, Power Slim protein blend and cocoa; vanilla version is made with bananas, almond milk, and Power Slim protein blend; strawberry version is made with bananas, strawberries, and Power Slim protein blend)

The new dedicated menu is available online, on the Smoothie King mobile app, and in all Smoothie King locations across the U.S.
