McDonald’s Corp. is testing automated voice order-taking at about 10 drive-thrus in the Chicago area, company CEO Chris Kempczinski told an investor conference Wednesday.
“There is a big leap between going from 10 restaurants in Chicago to 14,000 restaurants across the U.S. with an infinite number of promo permutations, menu permutations, dialect permutations, weather — I mean, on and on and on and on,” said Kempczinski, president and CEO of the Chicago-based burger brand, at the AllianceBernstein Strategic Decisions conference.
Meanwhile, the next career step for Elon Musk could be in the restaurant industry: Tesla, Inc. filed for three new trademarks on May 27 for the electric car and clean energy company under the category of restaurant services, as first reported by Electrek.
In other news, a former In-N-Out employee has accused the chain of violating California labor codes, failing to follow COVID-19 safety protocols, conducting unfair business practices and retaliating against him for speaking out against the chain in new claims filed on June 7.
The former employee, Luis Becerra, was employed by the chain for five years until his termination in May 2020 and claims he is speaking for a larger group of current and former In-N-Out employees dating back to January 2020, according to court documents filed.
