MILFORD Conn. Subway Restaurants is planning to test delivery service, according to a vendor that says it will participate in the trial.
Calls seeking more details from the quick-service sandwich chain’s franchisor, Doctor’s Associates Inc. here, were not returned by the time of this posting.
But Universal Delivery Solutions Group Inc. said in a statement released Wednesday that Subway would invite customers in selected cities to call a central order-placement number, 888-SUB-TO-GO, to have their orders delivered. UDS said it is providing the call system.
“Delivery is one more way Subway Restaurants can help make enjoying our sandwiches a little more convenient,” Ned Daley, marketing program specialist for Doctor’s Associates, is quoted as saying in the statement.
With some 28,000 franchised restaurants, Subway is the world’s largest quick-service chain in terms of unit count. The chain, which does a high volume of lunch business, has been rolling out breakfast and mixing more health-oriented items onto its menu.
