OAK BROOK Ill. McDonald’s Corp. continued its string of positive sales results, with global same-store sales up 4.9 percent in January, versus the same month last year, driven by gains of 3.6 percent in the United States, 6.8 percent in Europe, and 4.3 percent in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa region, the company reported Thursday.
The company said sales at U.S. based units were driven by successful breakfast offerings, the Snack Wrap product line and extended operating hours.
While the 3.6-percent uptick in January was the smallest U.S. same-store sales gain in four months, the comparison lapped a 9.7-percent gain a year earlier, the highest increase in more than two years.
The McDonald’s chain totals more than 30,000 units worldwide.
