McDonald’s Corp. said it is testing Fresh Garden Wraps, a larger version of the chain's Snack Wraps, in central Florida markets.
The nation’s largest quick-service chain announced the move this week on Twitter, and a promotional website lists three varieties of the wrap. While all three versions feature either grilled or crispy chicken, mixed greens and shredded Cheddar-Jack cheese in a flour tortilla, the California Chicken also includes ranch sauce, the Roma Chicken has tomato pesto and garlic aioli, and the Santa Fe Chicken has barbecue sauce, black beans and corn.
The blog BurgerBusiness, one of the first to report the new product, said McDonald's restaurants in Orlando, Fla., were pricing the Fresh Garden Wraps at $3.49 for the item alone and $5.59 for a combo meal.
The Fresh Garden Wraps appear nearly identical in flavor and price to the Chicken Grande Wraps that McDonald's tested in September in Chicago locations. The Fresh Garden Wrap even is being marketed as a “grande-sized feast that’s portable.” The Chicken Grande Wrap had three varieties as well: Garden Ranch, with ranch sauce; Roma Pesta, with tomato pesto and garlic aioli; and Santa Fe BBQ, with barbecue sauce, black beans and corn.
McDonald’s spokeswoman Ashlee Yingling characterized the test of the Garden Fresh Wrap as a continuation of the Chicken Grande Wrap test from earlier and added, “Customer feedback has been very positive.”
McDonald’s also tested another portable chicken menu item, Chicken Flatbreads, in October in Baltimore; Omaha, Neb.; and Albuquerque, N.M. That product had four varieties, including a Tuscan Tomato Basil made with pesto, tomato and garlic aioli. Other flavors were the Four Cheese, the BBQ Bacon Ranch, and the Southwest, which had guacamole and pico de gallo.
Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald’s, which operates or franchises more than 32,000 restaurants worldwide, also just wrapped up its monthlong run for the McRib, its cult-favorite sandwich that had been rolled out nationwide for the first time since 1994.
