Subway is offering a barbecue pulled pork sandwich as a limited time offer through Aug. 14, a company spokesman said.
The slow-cooked pork is dressed in “sweet and smoky barbecue sauce.”
Although the barbecued pork has been offered at certain Subway locations for years, this marks the first national promotion of the item.
The spokesman said the marketing push was actually prompted by franchisees.
“About 85 percent of the markets in the United States were going to be promoting the same item, so we made it a national promotion instead,” he said.
Prices for the barbecue pulled pork vary by location, but it averages about $5 for a six-inch sandwich and $8 for a footlong, the company said.
After Aug. 14 those markets that previously had been offering the pulled pork will continue to do so, and other markets will have the option of adding it as a permanent item, he said.
Milford, Conn.-based Subway has about 34,600 locations around the world.
