MONTVALE N.J. The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. Inc., the grocer more commonly known as A&P, is planning to add Starbucks coffeehouses to some stores in the Northeast under a licensing deal announced Thursday.
The first locations are scheduled to open in New Jersey in November. Seattle-based Starbucks Corp. already has units in grocery stores, such as Safeway.
A&P, based here, operates 337 stores under that brand name and six others, including WaldbaumÕs and The Food Emporium. The agreement with Starbucks includes select A&P Fresh and Gourmet/Fine Foods stores, but it was unclear how many locations would include the coffeehouse units.
