GENEVA Ill. Health officials are encouraging more than 3,000 customers of a Houlihan’s here to get a precautionary injection against hepatitis A because of a possible exposure to the virus during visits to the restaurant earlier this month.
News reports say that 630 patrons have already accepted the offer of a free immunity-boosting globulin shot from Kane County’s Health Department. But the germ fighters say that as many as 4,000 people may have visited the casual-dining restaurant between Jan. 8 and Jan. 19.
Afood handler who worked at the outlet during that time has been diagnosed with hepatitis A, a usually non-lethal but persistent disease that attacks the liver. The virus that causes it can be spread through food.
