Chicago-based Potbelly Corp. said winter weather accounted for a 3.75-percent negative effect on first-quarter same-store sales, which fell 2.2 percent for the March 30-ended period. However, chief executive Aylwin Lewis said 2014 was to be “an exciting year,” as Potbelly still expects to open between 40 and 48 new units and achieve low-single-digit comparable sales. In the first quarter, 330-unit Potbelly added nine company-operated restaurants and two franchised units.
