Denny’s Corp. is expanding to the United Kingdom, and the U.S.-based family dining chain took to social media to subtly pre-announce its arrival on the island nation.
The inaugural U.K. restaurant will open shortly after Christmas, a Denny’s representative confirmed. It will be located in Swansea, the second-largest city in Wales.
The Spartanburg, S.C., chain quietly launched three new U.K. social-media profiles — on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, respectively — rather than issue a press release or announce the expansion on its main U.S. social-media accounts.
Though the official menu has yet to be released, when asked by a Twitter user if the U.K. menu will be the same as in the U.S, the U.K. Twitter account replied: “It will indeed.”
Denny’s currently has more than 1,700 global restaurants with locations in Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, New Zealand, Honduras, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Honduras, the United Arab Emirates, Guam, Chile, Curaçao, Trinidad and Tobago and El Salvador.
President and CEO John Miller cited “expanding our global reach” as part of Denny’s “brand revitalization” in a statement accompanying the company’s second-quarter results in August.
Denny’s swung a profit of $8.7 million during the quarter, in large part because of a rebranding effort that helped turn the company’s momentum via renovations and added locations.
