Subway’s former senior vice president of global marketing Chris Carroll has returned to the sandwich chain to lead marketing, according to a report in Adweek.
The company is also considering a change in creative agencies after a decade of working with the Boston-based MMB.
In a statement, a Subway spokeswoman said Carroll has “not been named CMO,” but declined to comment further.
Regarding the review of creative agencies, she confirmed that the sandwich chain is conducting a closed review, but declined to disclose the participating agencies.
Earlier this week, Subway’s global chief marketing officer Tony Pace said he planned to leave his position at the end of September to launch a marketing consulting firm called Cerebral Graffiti.
Pace’s departure comes as the Milford, Conn.-based Subway is going through a transition in leadership after founder and CEO Fred DeLuca, who is battling leukemia, handed the reigns earlier this year to his sister Suzanne Greco.
The marketing team also faces challenges related to the suspension earlier this month of Subway’s relationship with long-time brand ambassador Jared Fogle after police raided his home. The raid was believed to be related to an investigation of Russell Taylor, the former director of The Jared Foundation obesity foundation, who faces child pornography charges.
The world’s largest restaurant chain by unit count, Subway has more than 44,000 locations globally, including 26,530 in the U.S. as of the end of 2014, according to Nation’s Restaurant News’ Top 100 data.
