The 3 Arts Club Café is the brainchild of Gary Friedman, CEO and chairman of Restoration Hardware Holdings Inc., and restaurateur Brendan Sodikoff, CEO of Hogsalt Hospitality.
The restaurant, coffee shop and wine bar sits in the luxurious courtyard of the landmark Three Arts Club building in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood.
Now the renovated 101-year-old building is home to decor company Restoration Hardware’s 70,000-square-foot retail space, the 3 Arts Club Café, a rooftop garden and a performance area.
“The RH galleries create a sense of place and the warm generosity you feel at home,” Sodikoff said in an e-mail. “3 Arts Club Café brings the idea of hospitality even further, bridging the gap between retail and residential.”
Sodikoff’s Chicago-based Hogsalt Hospitality operates 13 other restaurant concepts, including the Doughnut Vault.
The 3 Arts Club Café opened in October 2015, but in December the restaurant was already on track to do $5 million in annual sales, Friedman said in call with analysts. Restoration Hardware is based in Corte Madera, Calif.
That early success has been achieved without advertising, without selling liquor and without a traditional dinner service, closing between 7 and 7:30 p.m. because of a curfew agreement with the neighborhood, Friedman said.
Popular menu items include slow-roasted beets with kale, chevre and a toasted sesame vinaigrette for $12 and the RH Scramble with farm eggs, crème fraiche, avocado, chives and Texas toast for $9.
As for expansion plans, Sodikoff said the brand is currently focused on Chicago but is “exploring other opportunities around the country.”
Update: Feb. 17, 2016 This story has been updated to clarify that the restaurant serves an early dinner.
