Fuzzy’s Taco Shop has named industry veteran Michael Mabry, left, as its first chief development officer, the company said Wednesday.
The Fort Worth, Texas-based fast-casual Mexican brand said Mabry, who most recently served as president and chief operating officer of Plano, Texas-based Mooyah Burgers, Fries and Shakes, will lead franchise development while streamlining the real estate and construction processes.
“We’re fortunate to have Michael on our team and look forward to his leadership as we continue to drive growth,” said Mel Knight, president of Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, in a statement. “He brings experience across all aspects of our business, and, more importantly, aligns with our passion and commitment to putting the interests of our franchisees first.”
Fuzzy’s Taco Shop has been franchising since 2007 and now has more than 130 franchised locations in 16 states.
The company said that while it maintains brand standards and menu offerings, it encourages its franchisees reflect themselves and their communities in the restaurants.
“We’re going to capture the special things that have made us successful and adapt them into processes that can be easily replicated as we grow,” Mabry said.
The company said Mabry’s hiring completes the leadership team that has evolved over the past four months with three additional executive appointments: Kevin Rychel as vice president of operations; Samir Wattar as vice president of supply chain; and Laura Purser as vice president of marketing.
Fuzzy’s was founded in 2003 near the Texas Christian University campus in Fort Worth.
Atlanta-based NRD Capital Management bought a 70% stake in the company in February 2016, when it had 90 units.
