McDonald’s is adding a cheese Danish to its McCafé Bakery lineup starting Sept. 14 for a limited time.
The item is a flaky pastry with a sweet cream cheese filling topped with buttery streusel and a drizzle of vanilla sauce.
It’s a version of the pastry first introduced in the 1980s, the Chicago-based quick-service giant said.
The cheese Danish joins a lineup of McCafé Bakery launched in November of 2020 and including an apple fritter, blueberry muffin, and cinnamon roll. As with those other items, the Danish will be available at participating restaurants all day long.
McDonald’s launched its McCafé sub-brand featuring lattes, cappuccinos and mochas in 2009.
This is the first nationwide rollout of a new food from McDonald’s this year, although it did launch seasonal McFlurry and milkshake flavors for St. Patrick’s Day, and a Chocolatey Pretzel McFlurry for the late spring. McDonald’s also introduced a Blueberry & Crème Pie at around 6,800 of its roughly 13,500 domestic restaurants as a limited-time offer in January.
