Trending this week: Starbucks names former PepsiCo exec Laxman Narasimhan as next CEO

This week on Nation's Restaurant News the top story was, ex-NFL pro sues Denny’s over alleged franchise breach. Denny's Corp. and its franchisor DFO LLC are being sued by RWDT Foods Inc., co-owned by former NFL player Donnell Thompson, over breach of contract. Thompson, president of RWDT Foods, in the lawsuit filed in the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Charleston County, S.C., alleged the Spartanburg, S.C. family-dining brand breached its franchise contract in a case involving pre-opening training infractions. RWDT owns two Denny’s franchised units: one in Fayetteville, N.C., and another in North Charleston, S.C.

in other news, Starbucks announced that former PepsiCo executive Laxman Narasimhan will become the company’s next CEO, replacing interim CEO Howard Schultz, who came on in April 2022 after Kevin Johnson left the company. Narasimhan will join Starbucks as incoming CEO on Oct. 1 during a transitionary period, before assuming the role of CEO and joining the executive board on April 1, 2023.

Also, McDonald’s is adding a cheese Danish to its McCafé Bakery lineup starting Sept. 14 for a limited time. The item is a flaky pastry with a sweet cream cheese filling topped with buttery streusel and a drizzle of vanilla sauce.
