Restaurant hiring, Starbucks’ affordability, Moe’s Southwest Grill

It was a huge month for restaurant hiring in September. The restaurant and bars sector added 69,400 jobs. The average monthly gain for job additions in the sector throughout the prior 12 months had been 14,000.

Starbucks isn’t as affordable as its competitors. That is at least according to survey data from Technomic. Fifty one percent of those surveyed told the data firm they agree Starbucks is affordable. But that is well behind the chain’s competitors.

Moe’s Southwest Grill is driving menu innovation by pairing proteins with different flavors. And the fast casual is not sticking to the Southwest for inspiration. The newest release is Chili Crisp Chicken with a decidedly Chinese flavor profile.

St. Louis-based Lion’s Choice beefed up its signature roast beef sandwich and watched sales and traffic climb. The Remix, as the sandwich is called, has twice the beef as the original, two slices of cheese and a garlic aioli spread, all layered on grilled Texas toast.
