Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Kreme are both offering free doughnuts on Friday in celebration of National Donut Day.
The Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Krispy Kreme said no purchase is necessary in order to receive the sweet treat, but the Canton, Mass.-based Dunkin’ Donuts said it would provide a free doughnut with the purchase of a beverage.
In addition to offering free doughnuts, Dunkin’ said it would announce on Friday the winner of its first-ever “Create Dunkin’s Next Donut” contest. One of 12 finalists, who were chosen out of 130,000 contestants, will be selected as the winner and receive a $12,000 grand prize.
Krispy Kreme executive chef Ron Rupocinski said the chain decided to offer the free doughnut as a way of “making life just a little sweeter.”
Both brands will offer the free doughnuts at participating stores systemwide. Krispy Kreme has 520 stores, and Dunkin' Donuts has more than 8,800 locations.
