Kentucky Fried Chicken, the quick-service chicken brand, announced the chain was sending 1 million pieces of chicken to healthcare workers across the country to help feed those fighting COVID-19 on the front lines.

The chain announced that it will ship additional chicken to every KFC unit (company or franchise-owned) at no cost to the restaurant to be marked for “goodwill.” KFC will also provide each unit with recommendations on what constitutes goodwill.

“KFC restaurants across the country will be empowered to serve KFC’s world famous fried chicken however they decide will best help in their communities, whether they are donating to local hunger organizations, providing meals to those who are helping keep us safe or simply spreading joy — whatever their hometown needs most,” said a company statement.

In collaboration with National Burrito Day on April 2 and World Heal Worker Week, Chipotle offered healthcare workers and those on the front lines free burritos.

The Newport Beach, Calif.-based fast-casual brand is offering Burritos by the Box, a box of either 25 or 50 burritos, to hospitals and offices that are working to help those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We want to express our extreme gratitude by fueling the frontline workers at healthcare facilities across the country with real food,” said chief marketing officer Chris Brandt in a statement.

All Taco Trucks, the food truck version of Taco Bell, will become mobile commissary kitchens to bring “food to community heroes and those who work in essential roles every day,” according to the brand.

“There’s a distinct group of brave people – from healthcare workers, to teachers, to grocery store employees – who are making sure the world keeps running, and we need to make sure we all do our part to take care of them,” said CEO Mark King in a letter.

The Irvine, Calif.-based quick-service brand’s corporate locations are also working to donate excess food and produce to local food banks.

The Tulsa, Okla.-based fast-casual health-food chain Coolgreens is launching a promotion where every salad purchased between April 1 and April 12 will gift local hospitals in Oklahoma City and Tulsa with a salad.

Called “Salads of Hope,” this initiative is donating salads to first responders at hospitals and healthcare facilities in the chain’s home state of Oklahoma.

“We want to do what we can to support the brave men and women that are working on the frontlines in local hospitals during this pandemic,” said Coolgreens VP of operations Amanda Powell in a company statement. “They are working long hours with very little time to make a meal, especially a delicious and nutritious one. That’s where we come in.”

The fast-casual smoothie company announced an initiative to donate 100,000 smoothies to healthcare workers and first responders as part of the brand’s #InItTogether campaign.

To reach this number, each Tropical Smoothie Café is being asked to donate at least 100 smoothies. As of March 27, the Atlanta-based chain had donated 20,000 smoothies to 20 states.

“Our safety is dependent upon the selfless, hard work of our local healthcare workers and first responders and we want to help them in any way we can,” said CEO Charles Watson in a statement. “The 100K smoothie giveaway is a simple, but impactful example of one way we can show our gratitude and bring a smile to their face – one sip at a time.”
