Combo breakfast items include a drink and Homestyle Potatoes. The new breakfast side is Wendy’s alternative to a hash brown, part of combo meals served at Jack in the Box and McDonald’s. The skin-on cooked potatoes are seasoned with black pepper and garlic powder.

A McDonald’s located near this Wendy’s is selling a Sausage Biscuit with Egg and Cheese for $3.59. On the McDonald’s app, it is priced at $3.69.

A large chunk of Wendy’s pre-launch marketing has centered on the Breakfast Baconator, shown. It contains a square breakfast sausage -- a nod to the square beef patties found at Wendy’s. The sausage is topped with American cheese, bacon, a freshly cracked and cooked egg, cheese and Swiss cheese sauce. Wendy’s says it is served on a “warm breakfast roll” though it tasted and looked more like a hamburger-style bun. The sandwich price is $4.29.

There’s not an equivalent sandwich at McDonald’s or Jack in the Box. The closest might be the Loaded Breakfast ($4.39), Supreme Croissant ($3.59) or the Grilled Sourdough Swiss ($3.99) sandwiches at Jack in the Box.

In late January, McDonald’s made a pre-emptive menu move by expanding the Chicken McGriddle and McChicken Biscuit breakfast sandwiches systemwide.

Wendy’s new breakfast beverages include the Frosty-ccino. It is cold brew coffee blended with a choice of vanilla or chocolate Frosty and mixed with ice. The large vanilla version, shown, came with a $1.10 upcharge on a combo meal.  A large size of the seasoned potatoes, ordered with a combo meal, cost an additional 60 cents.  

Jack in the Box doesn’t typically come out with copycat products. They tend to go their own way with menu innovation. The latest experiment is no different. The San Diego-based chain and the creators of the iconic Hot Pockets have teamed up on a mashup LTO for breakfast: Loaded Croissant Sticks. 

The fried stick is a warm, flaky croissant filled with scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese. Jack in the Box called the $1 item another product that changes the breakfast game. It is “the perfect add-on during breakfast, lunch, dinner, and anytime in between,” the San Diego-based chain told NRN.
