O’Charley’s: This Tennessee-based casual-dining and bar chain’s portfolio trimming was no secret. Last year, the chain made the decision to shutter 17% of its stores as an attempt to get back on track after a rough pandemic era.

Au Bon Pain: The once-trendy bakery café chain is no longer quite as popular as it used to be with 45% unit decline last year. In 2021, the former Panera Bread sister brand was sold to a new owner (Ampex, a Yum Brands franchisee), and since then Au Bon Pain has shrunk to less than half the size it was under Panera ownership (115 to 55 units).

Corner Bakery: After declaring bankruptcy in 2023 under the then-ownership of Rohan Group (the same people that currently own Boston Market), the bakery-café chain shuttered 34 units and is now planning a comeback with new owners SSCP Management Inc.
