NORTHBOROUGH Mass. To help it comply with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards, among other goals, Bertucci’s Corp. is using Bit9 Parity from Bit9 Inc. to better protect point-of-sale system and enterprise software from malware and information theft, the vendor said.
Waltham, Mass.-based Bit9 said Bertucci’s joins a number of other companies in altering a strategy of relying heavily on antivirus technology to one that uses application “whitelisting” to help manage data security, lower support costs and improve system performance. Whitelisting technology helps users identify and decide which software and hardware devices are approved and appropriate for their respective systems and then block unauthorized programs and storage devices, such as USB thumb drives.
"Bertucci's is committed to securing our corporate infrastructure as well as our restaurant systems in order to protect our customers," said Kevin Quinlan, senior director of information technology for the company with 94 Bertucci’s Italian Restaurant units. “We recognized that the 'after the fact' approach offered by antivirus is no longer the most effective way to secure our systems and our customers. By securing our store systems with Bit9 Parity, we enable only trusted applications and significantly lower our risk profile.”
