Burger King marketing chief Klein takes leave of absence

MIAMI Russ Klein, Burger King Corp.’s president of global marketing, has taken a personal leave of absence, the nation's No. 2 burger chain confirmed Thursday.

Burger King said in a statement that Mike Kappit, senior vice president of business intelligence, would lead the company's marketing efforts in Klein's absence.

No reasons for Klein’s leave were provided. John Chidsey, Burger King’s chief executive, notified franchisees of the news in an e-mail, in which he wished Klein “a speedy return.”

Klein has been with Burger King for six years, overseeing such widely discussed campaigns as the Whopper Virgins, Subservient Chicken and Facebook-unfriending campaigns.
