Chick-fil-A is relying on its online reservation system to give away 100,000 half-gallons of iced tea to customers from August 1–13 in the greater Atlanta and Athens, Ga., areas.
Dubbed “The Great Tea Giveaway,” the Atlanta-based quick-service chain’s promotion invites customers to log on to www.cfafreetea.com and click on any of the 134 stores participating to reserve a time to pick up the free tea.
Customers have already claimed reservations for about half of the 100,000 free half-gallons of tea, said Mark Baldwin, a Chick-fil-A spokesman.
In some cases, the online system shows no available reservations at some locations, such as the Chick-fil-A units in Acworth and Camp Creek Parkway.
But there are plenty of opportunities for reservations at other Chick-fil-A locations in areas like Clayton, which has 627 available reservations, and Cumberland Mall, which has 601 opportunities, according to a website search Thursday.
Chick-fil-A uses its online reservation system for free giveaways because asking customers to sign up for specific time periods gives store managers a handle on the store traffic, Baldwin said.
“It helps with the operations side,” he said.
