EMERYVILLE Calif. In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Jamba Juice has launched a new buy-one-get-one-free offer as well as value-priced “Feel Good Specials” and a new smoothie.
Through April 25, customers can print out the anniversary coupon from the chain’s website, www.jambajuice.com, and bring it to participating stores to get a drink for themselves and a second of equal or lesser value for a friend for free.
From April 26 through May 31, Jamba Juice said it will offer a different special for each weekday, beginning with the “Ideal Meal” menu on Mondays for $3, which might include such options as the Mango Peach Topper, with mangos, peaches, bananas, yogurt and soymilk topped with organic granola.
“Buy Two Tuesdays” features a special pairing offer of the week. “Wake Up Wednesday” includes the offer of oatmeal for $2. On “Tasty Thursday,” baked goods will be discounted by $1 with the purchase of a drink. “All-Fruit Friday” includes the offer of any 16-ounce all-fruit smoothie for $3.
In addition to the special offers, the Emeryville, Calif.-based chain has also introduced a new all-fruit smoothie to its lineup. The Five Fruit Frenzy smoothie is a blend of blueberries, strawberries, bananas, peaches and mangos.
Jamba Juice opened its first store on April 19, 1990, in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Parent company Jamba Inc. now operates and franchises 739 units.
“Over the past 20 years, Jamba Juice has transformed from a small smoothie chain to one of the most recognized and beloved better-for-you food and beverage brands,” said James White, Jamba's president and chief executive. “We wanted to find a way to celebrate our legacy and its continuing influence on our success today by giving back to our fans. Everyone appreciates a great deal, and with the buy-one-get-one offer and Feel Good Specials, we are providing delicious, high-quality Jamba products at a great value -- in a way we haven’t done before.”
Despite struggles with flagging sales, White is attempting to engineer a turnaround at the smoothie brand with the addition of a new food menu, hot beverages and fruit teas.
Other aspects of the revitalization plan include retiring long-term debt, an ongoing refranchising effort, cost controls, and the expansion of licensing opportunities, such as the recently introduced Jamba Juice-branded novelty ice cream pops.
For its December-ended quarter, Jamba Juice reported a drop in same-store sales of 5.3 percent at company stores for the December-ended fourth quarter and a decline of 10.3 percent for the year.
White, however, predicted that same-store sales would turn positive in 2010, especially as the new food menu rolls out to more stores across the country.
