Jersey Mike's marks anniversary with LTO, online ordering

Jersey Mike’s is celebrating its 55th year in business with its first limited-time offer in five years and the introduction of online ordering.

The Manasquan, N.J.-based sandwich chain said its newest menu item, the Chicka-Phila-Roni, would be offered through February. The sandwich is a chicken cheese steak with onions, topped with pepperoni and melted American cheese, and will be toasted to order.

The company said it has changed very little of the menu since it first opened in 1956 on the Jersey Shore, but the Chicka-Phila-Roni may occupy a permanent spot on the menu if it produces adequate sales.

“We wanted to introduce something truly distinctive for our 55th anniversary,” said Hoyt Jones, president of Jersey Mike’s. “We are always surprised by the great sub ideas that come from our customers, and the Chicka-Phila-Roni was created with the help of some fans in Dallas who just happen to be professional football players. Pepperoni and cheese are consumer favorites, and this sub delivers full flavor.”

Jersey Mike’s said its rollout of online ordering also was a response to demand from customers. The chain partnered with Onosys Online Ordering to design the system, which enables customers to pay online with a credit card or in the store, save order data for future use and repeat purchases, and simplify the process for catering and private-party orders.

“Our customers have been asking for online ordering, and we’ve created an easy, intuitive system that continues to enhance the overall Jersey Mike’ customer experience,” Jones said. “Online ordering saves us time in the store, which means our customers receive their orders faster, and it also reduces the chance for errors in order taking.”

Jersey Mike’s has around 450 restaurants nationwide.
