Smashburger plans more growth

CHICAGO Smashburger, the Denver-based, fast-casual “better burger” restaurant concept said Wednesday that another franchisee agreement has been inked, for 11 locations in the Chicago area.

The company recently signed two Dallas Cowboys as franchisees, and this Chicago agreement brings the number of planned Smashburgers for the next five years to more than 200 units.

The Chicago-based caterer Food for Thought Enterprises signed the latest agreement through its new development arm, Smash Illinois LLC.

Last week, Smashburger, which is owned by Consumer Capital Partners, signed Dallas Cowboy Marc Colombo and his teammate Leonard Davis to open up to 30 Smashburgers in the Dallas metro area.

Smashburger’s plans are to have up to 500 restaurants nationwide. CCP, a private equity firm, invested $15 million in the two-year old concept which currently has 23 stores in operation in Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota and Texas.
