McDonald’s earnings, Starbucks-Oleato, Smoothie King

Value and marketing helped McDonald’s last quarter, but only to a point. The fast-food giant said same-store sales rose 0.3% in the U.S. in the third quarter, with “slightly negative” traffic, driven by its $5 meal deal and the company’s Collector’s Cups campaign in August.

Starbucks is phasing out its divisive Oleato beverages. The olive oil-infused espresso drinks introduced in 2023 were invented by ex-CEO Howard Schultz and rumored to sometimes cause gastrointestinal issues. Now, Starbucks confirmed that the company is phasing them out for good in early November to simplify the Starbucks menu.

Smoothie King launched a menu of high-protein, high-fiber drinks geared toward those taking Ozempic and similar weight-loss drugs. The chain’s new GLP-1 Support Menu is believed to be a first in the restaurant industry.

Clean Eatz has a new CEO. The health-focused meal-plan company named Eric Wyatt as its first chief executive.
