Dallas-based smoothie chain Smoothie King announced that rapper 2 Chainz is the brand’s latest franchisee. In partnership with experienced Smoothie King franchisee Philip Jones, 2 Chainz is opening a franchised location inside the State Farm Arena (home of the Atlanta Hawks) in Atlanta, Ga.
The new Smoothie King location opened its doors for basketball fans just before the Atlanta Hawks NBA Draft Party on June 26. The Smoothie King brand has been the official smoothie partner of the Atlanta Hawks since last year.
"As we continue to expand, we're thrilled to welcome 2 Chainz to our franchisee family—not to mention in collaboration with one of our great partners in the Atlanta Hawks," Wan Kim, Smoothie King CEO, said in a statement. "2 Chainz's passion for health and wellness aligns perfectly with our mission to inspire a healthy and active lifestyle; that coupled with his entrepreneurial spirit, embodies the essence of our brand and makes this a perfect match."
This is not 2 Chainz’ first time investing in the restaurant industry -- The “Mercy” rapper also co-owns Atlanta-based Esco Restaurant Bar & Tapas with his friend and fellow entrepreneur Mychel “Snoop” Dillard. They began franchising the concept in 2022, and now have six locations, mainly in the southern region of the United States.
Now, with his franchising partnership with Smoothie King, 2 Chainz makes the move from the franchisor to the franchisee side.
"I visit Smoothie King at least twice a week, so this partnership has been a long time coming," 2 Chainz said in a statement. " Throughout my health journey, I've been mindful of my choices, and when I go to games and events it's no different – I'm always looking for nutritious options and Smoothie King is in a class of its own when it comes to delicious smoothies with no added sugar.”
