Trending this week: Subway sells to affliates of Arby’s investor Roark Capital Group

In other news, Subway restaurants Thursday said it has entered into an agreement to sell to private-equity firm Roark Capital Group, moving the franchisor into new ownership for the first time since its founding 58 years ago.

Subway, which has headquarters in both Milford, Conn., and Miami, said, “The transaction is a major milestone in Subway’s multi-year transformation journey, combining Subway’s global presence and brand strength with Roark’s deep expertise in restaurant and franchise business models.”

Also, Chipotle Mexican Grill agreed to pay $322,400 to the Washington, D.C. attorney general’s office in the settlement of a child labor lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed against the California-based burrito chain over hundreds of child labor allegations, including failing to abide by the legal limits placed in the number of hours minor employees may work.

Besides paying the settlement fee, Chipotle is required to implement a new, “comprehensive training and workplace compliance plan” to ensure that future child labor violations don’t occur again.
