Dunkin' franchise group appoints interim leader

BELLINGHAM Mass. The Dunkin' Donuts Independent Franchise Owners Group Inc., the largest association of U.S.-based Dunkin' Donuts franchisees, named board member Jim Coen its interim president and chief operating officer after the resignation of Mark Dubinsky, who had served as president for two years.

Coen is executive director of Dunkin' Donuts' New England Franchise Association and founder of Franchise Perfection, a website that links potential franchisees to franchisors. He has been the clerk and a director of Dunkin' Donuts Independent Franchise Owners, or DDIFO, since May 2008, the group said Monday in a statement.

DDIFO is undertaking a search for a permanent successor to Dubinsky. There was no reason given for his departure.

“This is a critical time for franchisees because of the economic uncertainty,” said Kevin McCarthy, chairman of DDIFO. “The DDIFO board is confident that [Coen's] experience and skills will serve members well during this transitional period. We are also very grateful to Mark Dubinsky for all he did on behalf of the DDIFO and wish him continued success in his business endeavors.”

Franchisor Dunkin' Brands Inc. is based in Canton, Mass., and also franchises the Baskin-Robbins brand. Its Dunkin' Donuts chain totals more than 7,900 locations worldwide.
