PITTSBURGH The Pennsylvania Restaurant Association may file a lawsuit challenging the 10-percent alcoholic-drink tax that was passed Wednesday by the Allegheny County Council, said association president Patrick Conway.
The measure would hurt the hospitality industry by “scaring away future business in the county and driving future investments to areas outside Allegheny County,” said officials of the group. Allegheny County is in the western part of the state.
The drink tax, introduced earlier this year by county chief executive Dan Onorato, was seen by supporters as one way of funding the county’s $26.3 million share of Pennsylvania’s mass-transit bill.
Although the law has already been approved by the council, the PRA is considering the possibility of filing a lawsuit to block its enactment, Conway said.
