Restaurants across Los Angeles were ordered to close their dining rooms at midnight Monday through March 31, but are able to pivot to all delivery, drive thru and takeout.
Joining a growing number of states and cities making similar moves, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti said the decision was necessary to encourage social distancing and prevent the spread of coronavirus. The mayor signed an order to close nightclubs, and restaurants must close for dine-in business, but he encouraged residents to order delivery or takeout.
“I encourage all Angelinos to help support these critical small businesses, the restaurants we love in our neighborhoods,” he said in a news conference.

In addition, many restaurant companies voluntarily closed their doors or shifted to delivery and takeout only, including Tom Douglas in Seattle, Union Square Hospitality Group in New York City, José Andrés’ Washington, D.C.-based ThinkFoodGroup, Milwaukee-based Bartolotta Restaurants, and New York City-based Crafted Hospitality and Momofuku Group.
