Trending this week: How restaurant reservations are changing in the wake of COVID-19, and more on Golden Chick's new chicken sandwich

Olive Garden parent Darden Restaurants expects some dine-in capacity at 65% of restaurants by end of May

This week on Nation's Restaurant News, OpenTable, Yelp and Resy are rolling out new features to help restaurants and customers adjust to the new normal of eating out during COVID-19. These booking systems are expanding their platforms to include reserved seating for bars and wineries, as well as virtual waitlists and new capacity monitoring tools to ensure restaurants minimize crowding.

“I think these features speak to what is an evolving restaurant landscape,” Ben Leventhal, CEO and co-founder of Resy, said. “Capacity guidelines and social distancing guidelines are all things that are clearly part of our post-COVID reality, so we want to make sure the software reflects that.”

Golden Chick corporate chef J. Sullivan spoke to our food & beverage editor Bret Thorn about his new sandwich called the Big & Golden Chicken Sandwich. The sandwich is a 5-ounce affair of marinated, breaded and fried chicken over five pickle slices and a spicy, sweet and savory condiment called Lotta Zing Sauce.
