Waitr Holdings Inc. has added the first group of Nextbite delivery-only virtual brands to its Waitr and Bite Squad on-demand platforms, the company said Tuesday.
Amid an explosion of new virtual brands on smartphone apps, Lafayette, La.-based Waitr said the 10 Nextbite brands available on its platforms now include CraveBurger, The Big Melt, Firebelly Wings, Grilled Cheese Society, Hotbox by Wiz, Miss Mazy’s, Monster Mac, Tossitup, Wild Wild Wings and The Wing Dynasty.
“This new partnership with Nextbite boosts Waitr’s promise to provide a robust restaurant selection to our customers,” said Carl Grimstad, Waitr’s CEO and chairman, in a statement. “The addition of these new and diverse food offerings through the virtual kitchen strengthens our position in many markets.”
As of Sept. 30, Waitr and Bite Squad operated in small- and medium-sized U.S. markets in more than 700 cities.
Denver-based Nextbite is owned by Ordermark, the Los Angeles-based online-order management company. It works with “fulfillment kitchens,” typically brick-and-mortar restaurants with excess capacity, to service the brands.
In October, Waitr and Ordermark partnered to streamline Waitr’s app orders to restaurant kitchens.
“Waitr is a huge player within the restaurant space, and we are thrilled to partner with them to help drive more orders and revenue for both our virtual kitchen and brick and mortar partners,” said Alex Canter, founder and CEO of Ordermark.
For the third quarter ended Sept. 30, Waitr’s swung to net income of $4.6 million, or 4 cents a share, from a loss of $220.1 million, or $2.89 as share, in the prior-year period. Revenue was up 7%, to $52.7 million, from $49.2 million in same quarter of 2019.
Waitr, founded in 2013, bought Minneapolis-based Bite Squad in 2019
