Unprecedented sales at Wingstop, traffic declines at Starbucks, acquisitions for SPB Hospitality

It was another unprecedented quarter for Wingstop, which reported domestic same-store sales up nearly 29% for the second quarter.

Starbucks’ traffic continued to decline last quarter. The coffee shop giant’s U.S. same-store sales declined 2% in the company’s fiscal third quarter, with transaction count down 6%.

Speaking of Starbucks, the company wants more locations in smaller cities. The chain plans to speed the pace of unit growth this year largely by focusing more on tier 2 and tier 3 cities with population growth.

The owner of Logan’s Roadhouse acquired a pair of concepts created by celebrity chef Jose Garces. SPB Hospitality is the new owner of Amada Tapas y Vino and Village Whiskey.

The Supreme Court of Michigan has cleared the way for eliminating the state’s tip credit by 2029 and raising the minimum wage for all workers to $15 an hour by 2028.

Denny’s Corp. in a few weeks will officially relaunch its $2-$4-$6-$8 value menu, with an added $10 category, to help drive traffic at the family-dining chain.
