Subway will be adding a spicy ghost pepper bread, the first change in its bread lineup in three years, the company said Wednesday.
The quick-service restaurant brand, which divides headquarters between Shelton, Conn., and Miami, said the artisan Italian bread is coated in ghost pepper, habanero and paprika-seasoned panko breadcrumbs, topped with Monterey cheddar cheese and pickled jalapeño slices.
The company said two new sandwiches on the Subway Series menu — Spicy Nacho Steak and Fiery Meatball — will feature the ghost pepper bread.
“It’s been three years since Subway added a new sub bread to our menu, so we wanted to surprise our guests with something unexpected and capable of elevating every sub on our menu,” Paul Fabre, Subway’s senior vice president of culinary and innovation, said in a statement.
“Spicy food is wildly popular, and our guests have told us they are craving more spice on our menu,” Favre said. “Subway’s new ghost pepper bread opens up so many delicious possibilities to try, whether you are looking for a hearty kick on your favorite sandwich or maximum heat from our spiciest subs yet.”
With the arrival of ghost pepper bread, Subway is challenging customers who have been ghosting an ex to rekindle the connection and get rewarded in the process. Starting on Oct. 17 through Oct. 20, customers can visit SubwayGhosterRedemption.com and share why they’re seeking redemption to receive a coupon for two footlong subs for $12.99.
Subway, owned by Atlanta-based Roark Capital, has more 37,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries and territories.
