CHATTANOOGA Tenn. Krystal, the regional burger chain, is upgrading its milkshakes with the rollout of MilkQuakes, a line of the frozen drinks custom-made with real ice cream and milk. Each sells for $2.79.
The new treats will be offered in vanilla, strawberry and chocolate versions. Each is topped with a optional dollop of whipped cream and served in a 20 oz. cup.
Krystal isn't the only chain hoping to get some dollars from ice cream: Last week struggling Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. said it was testing a line of ice cream desserts at a unit in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Acoupon for a free MilkQuake will be distributed via email and posted on the company's official MySpace page at www.myspace.com/krystalloverslounge.
The brand's franchisor, The Krystal Co., owns or franchises more than 400 restaurants in 12 Southeastern states.
