Wind-whipped fires tore through several Los Angeles neighborhoods on Tuesday and into Wednesday, with at least two dead and tens of thousands of residents evacuated. Restaurant chains and independent operators across the city were closing units temporarily to ensure the safety of guests and team members, and many said they were setting up to support evacuees, firefighters and other first responders.

KFC U.S. had a tough year in 2024, including negative same-store sales and the abrupt closure of more than two dozen locations. But during a recent interview, president Tarun Lal said he is optimistic about this year and beyond thanks to a new “transformation plan” put into place.

KFC and Pizza Hut internationally, meanwhile, could close a bunch of locations in Turkey. Yum Brands, the chains’ parent company, said that it has terminated the master franchisee in the country, IS Gida, for “failure to meet” company standards.
