Starbucks introduces new Chocolate Java Mint Frappuccino and more to summer menu

Starbucks introduces a new list of summer menu items; the company will begin charging extra for ‘no water’ Refresher drinks

Starbucks has unveiled its summer menu lineup, including a few new items like the Chocolate Java Mint Frappuccino and White Chocolate Macadamia Cream cold brew, and will both be available starting May 9.

The new Frappuccino — available as an LTO — is made with Starbucks coffee, chocolate, mint flavoring and Frappuccino chips, blended together and topped off with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and chocolate cookie mint sprinkle topping.

“With the Chocolate Java Mint Frappuccino, we wanted to take a new approach to the classic combination of mint and chocolate to create a blended coffee beverage that elicits nostalgia for one of our favorite summer treats,” Maureen Matthews of the Starbucks beverage development team said in a statement. “The new white chocolate mint sauce is subtle and creamy, and when paired with the crunch of Frappuccino® chips and a swirl of rich mocha, is reminiscent of mint chocolate chip ice cream poolside on a warm summer day.”

The White Chocolate Macadamia Cream cold brew is available for a limited time, and is made with Starbucks’ cold brew mixed with macadamia syrup and topped with a white chocolate macadamia cream cold foam and toasted cookie crumbles.

“The smooth flavor profile of Starbucks cold brew combined with the nuttiness of macadamia flavor, creaminess of white chocolate flavored sauce in the cold foam, and salty cookie crumbs delivers the perfect balance of sweet and savory that customers love and offers a moment of summer fun with every sip,” Matt Thornton of Starbucks beverage development team said in a statement.

Besides these two drinks, Starbucks is also offering the Green Apron coffee blend inspired by Starbucks baristas. The coffee is a blonde roast coffee and Starbucks will donate $.10 for every brewed cup of Green Apron blend coffee to the Caring Unites Partners fund, which helps Starbucks employees in times of need. The coffee itself was also created and designed by ideas from Starbucks employees, and will be available to purchase year-round as a bag of whole bean coffee, or available for purchased brewed in a cup for a limited time.

The coffee chain is also introducing a new bumblebee cake pop and summer drinkware to round out its warm weather menu roundup.

Many Starbucks menu ideas originate from “hacks” from fans on social media, including the popular Pink Drink, now available in packaged form. One popular hack is to get more beverage by asking for less ice or less water when ordering a Starbucks Refresher drink. But now, according to Business Insider, Starbucks is catching on to this hack and will begin charging $1 extra for customers that ask for a Refresher with less or no water since that needs to be made with more product, and the price increase is to make up for that loss.
