Starbucks will be adding delivery capabilities to its first-party app for the first time ever. The new feature will be powered by DoorDash, with customers able to order Starbucks delivery on either the DoorDash app or the Starbucks app directly. The delivery ordering feature is available for all iOS and Android users across the U.S. and Canada.
Users can toggle between pickup and delivery when they open the Starbucks app and choose to have their coffee order delivered if they are within the delivery radius. The new feature is part of the Online Ordering portion of the DoorDash Commerce Platform, which allows merchants to personalize their digital ordering experience, capture guest insights, and drive engagement through the DoorDash merchant dashboard.
“By offering delivery in the Starbucks app for the first time, Starbucks is making it easier for customers to enjoy their favorite beverage and food from the Starbucks menu and simplifying the ordering process,” a Starbucks spokesperson told Nation’s Restaurant News.
The news was announced almost two years after Starbucks expanded its partnership with DoorDash nationally in January 2023. Starbucks first began offering delivery via Uber Eats in 2018, followed up by DoorDash a few years later, and finally via Grubhub earlier this past summer.
The simplification and consolidation of guests’ digital experiences are in line with CEO Brian Niccol’s plans to overhaul the Starbucks brand following multiple quarters of disappointing traffic and sales.
