Wendy’s since spring has promoted its “bookend” dayparts of breakfast and late night to expand sales.

John Li, Wendy’s global vice president of culinary innovation, said in a statement: “We tested 60 variations of our English Muffin Sandwiches before we landed on these light and fluffy English muffins made with a touch of honey and topped with a savory buttery spread, fresh cracked eggs and delicious bacon or sausage for the perfect harmony of breakfast flavors.”

The new item will be available during Wendy’s breakfast hours. Customers can redeem $2 off any breakfast combination in the smartphone app Aug. 22 through Sept 3, the company said.

The muffin sandwich joins other breakfast items such as Breakfast Baconator, Homestyle French Toast Sticks and a just introduced Frosty Cream Cold Brew.

The daypart experienced mid-single-digit sales growth and the company expects tat momentum to continue with its new Frosty Cream Cold Brew and “additional menu innovations launching soon,” Penegor said.

For the second quarter ended July 2, Wendy’s net income rose to $59.6 million, or 28 cents a share, from $48.2 million, or 22 cents a share, in the same period last year. Revenues rose to $240.7 million from $230.9 million in the prior-year quarter.
