Sam Ballas, a North Carolina native and chief executive of the 22-unit East Coast Wings & Grill, called 2012 the casual-dining chain’s breakout year. By the end of this year Ballas plans to expand East Coast Wings beyond its home state, opening units in Charleston, S.C., and San Antonio.
