The Beef Checkoff Program has announced the 2012 National Foodservice Beef Backer Award winners. Each year, the Beef Checkoff Program salutes three foodservice operators for their efforts in serving and marketing beef.

This year’s winners are:

Independent Operator: Webster’s Prime, an upscale steakhouse in Kalamazoo, Mich., that features several types of beef, including Wagyu, Angus, prime and dry-aged in a variety of preparations.

Chain Operator: Hoss’s Family Steak and Sea House, which operates 35 locations and its own state-of-the-art beef processing facility.

Innovator of the Year: Peacock Alley American Grill and Bar in Bismarck, N.D., which debuts at least five new beef dishes each month and sells beef in all dayparts.

Award winners are chosen based on the creativity used in serving and promoting beef.

“The annual Foodservice Beef Backer Award allows us to honor the chefs and restaurant owners that lead the industry in promoting and selling beef,” said Scott McGregor, an Iowa cattleman and chairman of the Beef Checkoff’s 2012 Joint Foodservice Committee.
